At age 27 she began modeling and appearing in television commercials, then became an VJ for MTV in 1991. In 1995 she was diagnosed with sarcoidosis, a rare incurable disease that attacks the central nervous system. In 2000 her book "Model Patient: My Life As an Incureable Wise-Ass"
