Members Pharell Williams, Chad Hugo and Shay In the english-speaking, a ' nerd' is a pejorative term qualifying a head of first of its class or an odd guy, dreamer, contained a little in his world in the absence of being exceptionally gifted. One should not especially confuse with the data-processing term which is actually ' geek '. A nerd is much more than one person having a double life, including one virtual. N*E*R*D, for "No one Ever Really Dies", it is also an exploring group of rap, formed of the members of The Neptunes (Pharell Williams and Chad Hugo) and of a companion of college, Shay. The formation was created in 1999, at the same time as the label Star Trak. Contrary to the standards productions of Neptunes, N*E*R*D is a side-project allowing them free course their musical imagination and lyricale. It is the summer 2000 which the world will know of the day at the following day the advent of this group hip hop atypical and innovative. Their first piece "Lap Dance", synthetic mixture of rock'n'roll and rap, make a misfortune at the white or black teenagers of the American middle-class. The clip besides puts in scene Pharell alias Skateboard P in company of strippers for better emphasizing its metaphorical and idyllic texts. No diffusions before 22h. The phantasm remains with "Rock'n'roll Star", true neptunian anthem and the ballade with the guitar "Provider". 2001, odyssée ' In Search Of... ' are in orbit and do not case badly in Europe, where the N.E.R.D privilege their rounds. In 2002, they re-record this disc with Spymob, a group of pop/rock near to Neptunes. This new version more thundering and powerful satisfied even more their base of fans. Not badly of pieces of their first album (two confused versions) are asked to accompany the band by more or less known films: ' the Mortal Kiss of the Dragon ', ' Blue Crush ', ' Daredevil ', ' XXX ',... critical Succès obliges, the nerdeux ones steal the price of the most creative album of the year 2001 to the nose to the beard of the DJ Trip hop, the legendary DJ Shadow. A paradox for Neptunes, solicited by the rap mainstream, whereas ater-ego N.E.R.D cases in the underground. N.E.R.D. start to work with known names of the scene rock'n'roll alternative such as Papa Roach, No Doubt and Perry Ferrel. Afterwards from new dates of rounds and some news trailing on Internet, Pharell, Chad and Shay give that in 2004 with ' Fly Or Die '. Completely different from their first project, this one is completely recorded in an acoustic way, with truths instruments. Their single "She Wants To Move" makes a misfortune in the world. More centered in the style of the years 70s and 80s, this 2nd album invites personalities such as Lenny Kravitz?uestlove and Good Charlotte. In lack of promotion, considering the unclassable kind of the album rather Hip Hop progressive and criticisms unanimously good, the sales remained confidential. What will they prepare in the years to come? No one does not know it, unless the tensions with their Virgin label calm down. |
