David Smith
| Biography |
David Smith qualified as a Chartered Accountant while with Coopers & Lybrand in Toronto. He graduated from the University of Windsor with an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree. He was elected a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario in 2000.
David was admitted to the Canadian partnership at Coopers & Lybrand in 1974, specializing in entrepreneurial Canadian companies and partnerships. Over the course of his career, David has held numerous internal positions in Personnel, Administration and Operations. He became the Managing Partner of the Toronto Area Offices in 1990, Vice-Chairman of the Ontario Region in 1992 and was elected Chairman and Chief Executive Partner of the Canadian firm in 1997.
On a global level, David has overseen the Caribbean practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP since 1991. He was appointed to the firm's Global Board and became Chair of the Global Compensation Committee in 1997. Upon retirement from PricewaterhouseCoopers in 2001, he joined the CICA as President and CEO.
During his career, David has been a board member of a number of clubs and volunteer organizations. He is currently a member of the Board of Governors of CCAF and is also a member of the Auditor General's Panel of Senior Advisors. He has a passion for cruising, sailing and anything to do with water.
