Biography
TIMOTHY SPALL earned a BAFTA nomination for his performance in Mike Leigh's "Topsy Turvy." He had previously garnered both BAFTA and London Film Critics Circle nominations for his role in Leigh's "Secrets and Lies." His other credits include Leigh's "Life is Sweet," Kenneth Branagh's "Hamlet," Bernardo Bertolucci's "The Sheltering Sky," Clint Eastwood's "White Hunter, Black Heart," Agnieszka Holland's "To Kill a Priest," Ken Russell's "Gothic" and Frank Roddam's "The Bride" and "Quadrophenia." Spall reunited with Kenneth Branagh for "Love's Labour's Lost," and also appears in such upcoming films as Roland Joffe's "Vatel," Rolf de Heer's "The Old Man Who Read Love Stories," and Patrice Chéreau's "Intimacy."

Spall won a Broadcasting Press Guild Television Award and received another BAFTA nomination for his role in the BBC's "Our Mutual Friend." He was more recently BAFTA-nominated for "Shooting the Past," and includes among his additional credits "Stolen," Mike Leigh's "Home Sweet Home," "A Cotswold Death," "The Cherry Orchard," "The Bryllcream Boys," "Vanishing Army," and the two series "Auf Wiedesehen Pet" and "Outside Edge."

His stage repertoire includes Royal Shakespeare Company productions of "The Three Sisters," "Knight of the Burning Pestle," "Nicholas Nickleby," "Merry Wives of Windsor," "Suicide" and "Baal," as well as "A Midsummer Night's Dream," "Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme," "Mandragola" and "Saint Joan," with the National Theatre.

In 2000, he was named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for services to drama by Queen Elizabeth II.
