Taye Diggs

(born January 2, 1972) is an American actor. He hails from Brooklyn, New York and was raised in Rochester, New York. He is the oldest of five children; he has two brothers and two sisters. Diggs married Broadway star Idina Menzel on January 11, 2003.
Diggs received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in musical theater from Syracuse University. Diggs' debut was in the ensemble cast of the five-time Tony Award-winning musical Carousel. In 1996, he got his big break, originating the role of the nasty landlord Benny in Jonathan Larson's Tony Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning Rent. He then moved from stage to television, with a role on Guiding Light, and in 1998 he made his film debut in How Stella Got Her Groove Back . The following year he accepted roles as a tantric sex god in Doug Liman 's Go. Audiences could next see him as an AWOL groom in the coming-of-age drama The Wood . Malcolm D. Lee 's The Best Man featured Diggs as the titular best man suffering from his own pre-wedding jitters. He also starred in the remake of William Castle's The House on Haunted Hill. Currently, Diggs portrays an attorney on the UPN series Kevin Hill . He has recieved a few hate mails for marrying Idina Menzel, who is white.
