Biography
JIMI MISTRY (Ramu) has emerged as one of Britains best young acting talents. Soon after leaving Drama School he got his first break as the rebellious son Tariq in the successful stage play East is East at The Royal Court Theatre.

Mistry became famous on a national level after a short run as Dr Fred Fonseca in the popular UK drama EastEnders.

His big screen break came with the reprisal of the role of Tariq in FilmFour’s British Academy Award winning screen version of East is East with Om Puri in 1999. This premiered at Cannes to huge critical acclaim and was distributed worldwide.

He went on to play an incompetent petty-thief in David Kane's romantic, salsa comedy Born Romantic opposite Catherine McCormack; and then a sadistic torturer in My Kingdom co-staring Richard Harris, a modern day take on King Lear set in Liverpool. This is due for release in Autumn 2002.

Jimi was filming Ismail Merchant's adaptation of VS Naipaul’s The Mystic Masseur in Trinidad when he first met Daisy von Scherler Mayer to discuss the role of Ramu in The Guru.

The Guru is Mistry's breakout American role in which he plays a dance teacher who becomes a spiritual guru of sex, in this hilarious romantic comedy also starring Heather Graham and Marissa Tomei.
