Gerard Depardieu an actor, native Frenchman, was a wanderer and delinquent until he began his acting career. He appeared as the hero in many French films and was enormously popular. The leading French actor of the 80s and 90s, Depardieu has been bestowed the honor of the highest French title of 'Chevalier du Legion d'Honneur'.

Depardieu received an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Cyrano in the 1990 film "Cyrano de Bergerac". He won the hearts of many women when he appeared opposite Andie MacDowell in Touchstone Pictures' "Green Card" the same year.

Gerard has also recorded several albums, has appeared in many stage productions and has directed and co-written films. His passport says actor/winemaker due to his knowledge and talent for wine making.

Depardieu was born in Chateauroux, Indre, France on 27 December 1948. He and his wife Elisabeth have a son and daughter.

Of his character, Porthos, one of the Three Musketeers in "The Man In The Iron Mask", Depardieu is quoted: "This character is very much like me -- he's fed up but he's funny. Porthos doesn't want to get old. He has the same
