Andy was born in Mt. Airy, North Carolina June 1, 1926. The only child of Carl Lee and Geneva Nann Nunn Griffith. He went to college to be a Moravian preacher but changed his major to music. He graduated in June of 1949 and married Barbara Bray Edwards (23 years). Andy and his present wife, Cindi Knight, married on April 2, 1983. (Information from "The Andy Griffith Story" by Terry
