Mai Kuraki
| Biography |
Like one year before Hikaru Utada succeeded May Kuraki the fast and enormous entrance into the Japanese music scene in December 1999. Anyway the two can be compared rather well with one another. May Kuraki writes like their Konkurrentin its own music, in which it lets English and Japanese into one another-flow elegantly. Both are approximately equal old, May Kuraki scarcely one year older. Both have strong connection into the USA, Hikaru Utada there were born and May Kuraki produced mostly here, co-operate with US producer and other people, whereby them do not try like Utada to place itself continuously into the center but rather in peace takes up and only to the light of the public moves their Songs, if it is necessary. Fortunately there are also enough differences, so that May Kuraki can be regarded naturally isolated, it would unfortunate be and certainly also not desired bring it continuously with Hikaru Utada in connection. On the one hand it sings to one mixes from easy R&B and Pop, whereby latter ever more moves into the center. Their songs sound simply "Japanese", which on the one hand naturally is because of the style of the music, on the other hand however certainly also at their Japanese accented English. As a child May Kuraki wanted to become still ice shop assistant or piano teacher, but with 16 it already brought its first single to "baby I Like" on the American market. Interestingly enough the US imported goods were this single on the Japanese market very fast sell off. She was discovered then by the successful US musician Mark of fire-place, which after he the demo Tape to "baby I Like" had belonged, a Remix set "baby I Like REMIXES" published. Two assembly its Debut single "Love, Day after Tomorrow" a large success in Japan became later and reached the first place in the Oricon Charts. After this success it secured its position on the Japanese music market and from then on often appeared themselves in magazines and in the Top Ten. |
