Biography

It was a dream come true when Brooke’s magnetic performance and intoxicating vocals captured the interest of the MD of Universal Music at a talent quest and signed her for a worldwide record deal when she was only 17. Born and raised in Grafton, NSW, Brooke McClymont always knew she would sing.

"When I was 11, the ironing lady heard me sing in front of the mirror at home and she said to mum ‘you should put her into the Jacaranda Talent Quest in Grafton’ . So mum entered me and I sang ‘All I Want To Do Is Make Love To You’ and started from there".

Listening to music was really important in the McClymont household, and Brooke looks up to her influences which include Sheryl Crow, ABBA, Faith Hill and Alanis Morrisette. "I never went to classes, I would choose the songs I wanted to learn and practice at home."

Brooke is certainly no overnight sensation. It was three years of hard work and studying before the album would be recorded. "I’m glad now that it’s taken so long, I’ve used the time to develop" says 20 year old Brooke. She finished her HSC while writing the songs for the album. "Basically my education has been on the road. I was made to finish my HSC. I didn’t want to, I thought ‘this is waste of time’, I thought ‘I could be song writing full time’, but I look back now and saw I really needed to. I wasn’t ready back then."

Brooke had already started writing her own songs from the age of 11. From 17, Brooke had the opportunity to work between LA, Nashville and Australia with such high caliber songwriters as Paul Begaud (The Honeyz, Selwyn), Matthew Gerard (Jessica Simpson, Eden’s Crush), Keith Follesse (Faith Hill, Tim McGraw), Christopher Ward (Alannah Myles, Amanda Marshall) and Rick Price (Dean Miller, Gina Jeffreys). "It broadened my song-writing ability and gave me an understanding of what the industry expects and how professional you have to be to make it", she says.
