Karin Taylor
| Biography |
KARIN TAYLOR was born and raised in Haarlem, Holland and comes from a very artistic family.
After meeting and marrying her British husband she gave up her PR career and spend the next 15 years working and living all over the globe. Some of the countries they/she lived in enabled her to get hands-on involved with one of her passions: wildlife
Karin started painting water colours in the early nineties and during their last posting -once more in Indonesia- she managed to combine her love for both wildlife and painting: she ended up painting for the Jakarta Friends of the Zoo Society, doing all their art work which was than used for raising much needed funds for supporting the zoo.
In June 1997 Karin, her husband Dave and their twins fulfilled a long time wish/dream and emigrated to Calgary, Canada. They are now living in Springbank just outside Calgary. Karin's own studio is there as well.
"In a way coming to Canada made al the pieces fall into place", says Karin, "the abundance of both wildlife and nature made the rather unusual transition to painting wildlife on river rocks (...) a very logical step to take!"
These days Karins' days are mostly filled with painting animals -wildlife, farm animals , pets or commissions- onto various rocks.
She finds the rocks near the local river beds (or has them 'donated' by grateful local farmers..), cleans them thoroughly and after drawing the initial picture on to the rock she then paints the rock using acrylic paint. Once the finished rock has thoroughly dried she will coat the end product with a matt polyurethane varnish so the rock can be put either in or out.
Some of her work can be seen at The Western Heritage Centre in Cochrane, in the Canada House gallery in Banff, The River Crossing Wine bar in Bragg Creek and of course in Calgary!
