biography
Antonia Eugenia Vardalos was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, on September 24th, 1962. The product of a large, caring Greek family, she was encouraged to pursue her chosen career of acting. She got her start at the Rainbow Stage, a local Winnipeg theater, which gave her the credentials needed to receive a scholarship for Toronto's Ryerson University. She knew she was in the same city as the venerable improvisational comedy theater troupe, Second City (whose alumni include Martin Short and Mike Myers), and she did not sit idly by.
