Barbara Carrera

Biography
Barbara Carrera was born in Managua, Nicaragua, in 1951. Her father was a diplomat working at the American embassy in Managua, her mother a young Nicaraguan woman. Carrera dropped her father's name, Kingsbury, in favor of her mother's maiden name when she started modeling at age 17. Barbara finished school in the United States, at the young age of 10. For five years she took lessons at a convent in Memphis, not to become a nun but for the value of a superior education. Art was an interest, but music took up more of her study time. She made a big splash in the fashion industry at 17 before moving on to Hollywood through a series of Chiquita Banana commercials. She made her feature-film debut in Puzzle of a Downfall Child (1970), but is probably best-known as sexy Fatima Blush in Sean Connery's 007 comeback film, Never Say Never Again (1983). Carrera has been featured in mostly ornamental roles in such action or genre fare as The Master Gunfighter (1975), Embryo (1976), The Island of Dr. Moreau (1977), Condorman (1981), I, the Jury (1982), Lone Wolf McQuade (1983), Wild Geese II (1985), and Wicked Stepmother (1989).
